Before their game against the Diamondbacks this evening, the Mets made a number of roster announcements. Danny Young’s placement on the 15-day Injured List due to a left elbow injury was the most urgent news. The Mets now lack a lefty in their bullpen as A.J. Minter is also listed as injured. In a matching transaction, veteran reliever Chris Devinski joined the Mets bullpen.

After starter Huascar Brazobán, the Mets summoned up 30-year-old Brandon Waddell from Triple-A Syracuse to fill in as the bulk man in a bullpen game this evening. Since making appearances for the Twins, Orioles, and Cardinals in 2021, Waddell has not played in the major leagues. Waddell played in the KBO and CPBL in Asia for a portion of 2022 and for the entirety of 2023 and 2024. Waddell has pitched 23 and a third innings with a 1.54 ERA in his five starts for Syracuse this season.

Kevin Herget, who was added to the bullpen yesterday night, was optioned back to Syracuse in a matching move. Last night, the pitcher from Teaneck, New Jersey, threw two innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out one batter.

Brooks Raley was finally placed on the 60-Day IL after his contract was signed. This implies that he would be eligible to join the major league team as early as late June. Raley has started throwing bullpen sessions while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
