Jon Scheyer named Jai Lucas’s successor Thursday and it’s an intriguing hire: Evan Bradds.

Bradds, a Belmont alumnus, most recently served as a player development assistant coach for the Utah Jazz. Duke will be able to discuss with players what they need for the NBA and provide them with precise and practical counsel, which is clearly a bonus.

Regarding the hire, Scheyer stated: “I’m thrilled to have Evan and his wife, MacKenzie, join Durham. In addition to his NBA player development expertise and incredible basketball intelligence, Evan also possesses a special talent for fostering deep connections with players, which is fundamental to our culture. His knowledge, ambition and forward-thinking attitude will help maintain Duke at the forefront of collegiate basketball. We look forward to what is ahead.

Although we don’t know much about him yet, he seems like a tremendously wise hire on paper. Later, we’ll have more.
