Jose Iglesias seemed to still be hurt by the New York Mets’ rejection of him this offseason.

The San Diego Padres shortstop told reporters Wednesday before the series finale against the New York Yankees that he was “totally shocked” that he had never received an offer from the Mets in free agency and that “that was a goal, to receive something and come back home,” according to Newsday.

He suddenly seems prepared to hold them accountable.

He remarked, “I dreamed that I had a walk-off hit against the Mets.” Over their first baseman, it was a blooper. In my dream, I defeated the Mets in a walk-off, and we advanced to the World Series.

Iglesias waited until March, when he agreed to a $3 million, one-year contract with the Padres. Nick Madrigal, who has since sustained a season-ending injury, was signed by the Mets at that time and was considered their utility infielder. Additionally, New York sought to provide Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuña, two younger infielders, roster flexibility.

It’s obvious that positive energy, of which Iglesias supplied enough last season, won’t influence a front staff led by baseball operations president David Stearns.

Jose Iglesias details shock of Mets disinterest in free agency reunion

Iglesias changed the direction of the Mets’ season after being called up from Triple-A on May 31. And not because his popular song “OMG” and upbeat outlook made him a fan favorite. He helped the Mets get to the NLCS by contributing with huge hits, stabilizing second base by batting.337 with a.708 OPS throughout the regular season.

In 98 plate appearances this season, he has a.225 average and.551 OPS. Was Stearns correct to let him walk, I wonder?
