The $9 million Neville Arena upgrades were approved by Auburn’s Board of Trustees in February of this year.
The current practice gym at Neville Arena will be improved by the 22,500 square foot improvements. Expanding the team meeting and office areas in the basketball program suites is the aim.
The BOT authorized the start of construction of a second basketball practice gym at Neville Arena in February 2022. The records from the meeting indicate that the process of choosing the architects was authorized in April of that year.
The February-approved renovation will not be the same as the 2022-approved renovation. It is anticipated that the renovations to Neville’s scholarship lobby and team facilities would be finished by November. Work started last month.
“The athletics director and coaches of all three teams are very supportive of and excited for these changes to the team spaces, as this change solves the original scope challenges while offering a significant savings to the university,” stated Jim Carroll, vice president of facilities management at Auburn. “The combined efforts of these renovation investments yield enhanced spaces for each one of our sports teams, so volleyball, women’s, and men’s basketball,” Carroll said.
