One of the New York Mets’ greatest assets this season has been their pitching. With a 2.89 ERA, the ball club leads the Majors, and it looks like more additions are coming.
Frankie Montas, Paul Blackburn, and Sean Manaea are all making progress in their rehabilitation and ought to return to the team shortly.
Via Andrew Tredinnick:
Manaea’s oblique injury has prevented him from pitching this season. Since he hasn’t stepped on a mound yet, a comeback sometime in June looks plausible. He needed a PRP injection to aid with the soreness. The southpaw was extremely good for the Mets in 2024, having a 3.47 ERA and excelling in the playoffs multiple times.

As for Frankie Montas, who was shut down in February with a lat strain for over two months. who’s now throwing off the mound, but he still hasn’t faced live batters. That will be the next stage, followed by a rehab stint in the minor leagues. Montas joined the Mets in the offseason.

the meanwhile, Paul Blackburn was vying for a position in the rotation throughout spring training until suffering a knee injury that postponed his season debut. With another rehab trip scheduled for this weekend, he is the one who is most likely to return out of the three. When Blackburn is fully recovered, he will probably start out of the bullpen.

The main attraction here is Manaea, and New York will greatly benefit from his return to the rotation. The lone southpaw in the rotation right now is David Peterson.
Carlos Mendoza’s team certainly looks like a World Series contender, but it’s still early. The Mets, who lead the NL East with a 24-14 record, will start a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at home on Friday, with Clay Holmes starting.
