The Virginia Cavaliers women’s basketball team picked up their sixth transfer portal addition of the offseason, announcing the commitment of Princeton transfer Tabitha Amanze on Saturday.

Although she missed her freshman season due to injury, 6-foot-4 center Amanze, who hails from Ogun, Nigeria, played her first three seasons in college with the Tigers. In 2024–25, she averaged 6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game in 28 games.

Coach Mox said in a statement on Saturday that “[Amanze] will be a difference-maker for us at the five posture.” “Tabbie provides quickness, strength, length, and a level of aggressiveness that we haven’t had in the past. I’m eager to help her develop some of her unrealized versatility. She is a good-natured young woman who cherishes her education and will eventually improve our society in every way.

Even though Amanze hasn’t made a significant impact at the NCAA level yet, she offers Charlottesville a high ceiling on both ends of the floor. Amanze was a four-star prospect coming out of Blair Academy in New Jersey, where she was ranked 43rd in the 2022 high school class (per ESPN).

Amanze was also incredibly effective during her stint at Princeton, shooting a total 54.3% from the field over the last two seasons. Amanze is a long big man with quick feet and a talent for blocking shots. He will be a defensive anchor for Virginia’s frontcourt and have a fantastic back-to-the-basket game on the offensive end of the court.

Virginia’s 2025–26 team will include a quality group of transfers, including Amanze, UCF forward Adeang Ring, NC State center Caitlin Weimar, LSU forward Sa’Myah Smith, USF guard Romi Levy, and Florida State guard Raiane Dias Dos Santos.

Even though Kymora Johnson recently declared her intention to remain with the Cavaliers for another season, and seven Cavaliers (Latasha Lattimore, Edessa Noyan, Payton Dunbar, Casey Valenti-Paea, RyLee Grays, Kamryn Kitchen, and Hawa Doumbouya) hit the transfer portal, Coach Mox appears to have assembled the right pieces around Virginia’s star point guard for this team to advance significantly the following season.
