One of the four high school pledges in Syracuse’s basketball 2025 class, four-star combo guard Luke Fennell of Melbourne, Australia, will compete in the FIBA U19 World Cup, which will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from June 28 to July 6.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Fennell is one of 12 players that will represent Australia in the FIBA U19 World Cup, according to a news release issued by Basketball Australia this week. According to the announcement: “Australia has qualified for 15 of the 17 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cups since the tournament began in 1979 and remains the only nation outside Europe and North America to have claimed the title” in the year 2003.

Many congratulations to Luke!

The FIBA U19 World Cup is being played by 16 teams this year. There is group play to start the event. Australia, the United States, France, and Cameroon are all members of the fiercely contested Group D. Intriguingly, Australia will play the United States on June 28 to begin their Group D matches.
