When the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired Seattle Seahawks standout DK Metcalf in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick and a seventh-round pick, it created quite a stir in the trade market.

Many believed that the 27-year-old wide receiver had had enough of playing for the team that had selected him in the 2019 NFL Draft. John Schneider, the general manager of the Seahawks, recently discussed the reasons behind the two teams’ split on The Rich Eisen Show.

“Over the last few years, DK and I have had extremely candid discussions regarding his future… And he clearly wants to move on,” Schneider remarked. “It had nothing to do with pay… He seemed to be desperate for a new beginning.

Even though Jaxon Smith-Njigba was highly reliable during his tenure with the Seahawks, he was still getting better and became a star. Because of this, it’s likely that Metcalf wished to be in a position where he was the team’s established top wide receiver.

Given that the Steelers recently acquired George Pickens in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, he will be just that on the squad. This implies that a significant amount of Pittsburgh’s offensive will undoubtedly rely on Metcalf.

It’s also important to remember that the Steelers lost their outstanding running back, Najee Harris, to the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency. Thus, the passing game may be even more important to the squad.
