A two-time All-Star is leaving the Los Angeles Angels.

On Wednesday, the Angels made a number of roster announcements, chief among them the assignment designation of Tim Anderson. The move comes after Anderson played just 31 games for the team.

Anderson was destined to be a star for many seasons to come less than five years ago. He was sixth in the 2020 AL MVP vote and was selected to the Chicago White Sox’s All-Star team in both 2021 and 2022. He could hit 20 home runs or more at shortstop and was a.300 hitter at his peak.

Anderson hasn’t been the same player since 2023, when his stats fell. He has only batted.232 and hit one home run in 219 games since the 2023 season began. At the time of his release, he was hitting.205 with no power, so there were no indications that he would improve with the Angels this season.

Anderson has attributed his decline as a player to injuries. Maybe it is, but the 31-year-old just doesn’t seem like he can make things better. How many more opportunities will he have at the Major League Baseball level?
