On Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers beat the San Francisco Giants 4-3. But A.J. Hinch and the Tigers leave the game worried about Jackson Jobe’s health, their breakout pitcher. All three of the Giants’ runs were given up by the 22-year-old, who began the game and pitched 4.2 innings. But given that Reese Olson is still out, his lack of participation in postgame events is concerning.
Reporter Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press said Jobe did not talk to reporters after the game and was not in the clubhouse. Speaking to reporters, Detroit’s manager hinted that his young starter would wind up getting a tune-up in the minor leagues.
The right-hander has surpassed expectations in his second season in Major League Baseball, despite failing to record a victory over the Giants. The 22-year-old is 4-1 in ten starts and gives Hinch a dependable pitcher at the bottom of his rotation. Although his ERA of 4.22 is not ideal, he has performed his duties in 2025 almost flawlessly.
When Hinch returns, he will have a choice to make as the Tigers await the debut of newcomer Alex Cobb. Olson may return within the next week despite having a finger ailment that has put him on Detroit’s disabled list. When Hinch’s starting rotation is fully healthy, Jobe might be the odd man out, especially when considering his relative lack of experience, especially in the postseason.
It’s hardly the end of the world for Detroit if Jobe gets hurt. Their offense is more than capable of taking the load, and they have enough depth to go for extended periods of time without him. One of the league’s top lineups is led by Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene, and Spencer Torkelson. One of the primary reasons the squad is at the top of the standings is their balance on both ends.

The Tigers will need to keep an eye on Jobe’s condition going ahead. The young pitcher has established himself as a talent on par with major leagues. Fans will, however, have to wait to see what rotational changes Hinch makes later in the season.
