Travis Honeyman, one of the Cardinals’ best outfield prospects, was promoted to High-A Peoria this week after dominating Low-A Palm Beach throughout Spring Training.

Travis Honeyman is set to make his High-A debut after recent promotion

In 29 games for Palm Beach, Honeyman, who St. Louis selected with their third-round choice in 2023, slashed.321/.446/.443 with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, eight RBIs, seven stolen bases, and twenty walks. Since Honeyman was on average two years older than players at the level, it was time to elevate him to a level that would test him more than Low-A was. Honeyman was once a proficient hitter at Boston College.

Given that Honeyman only participated in 20 games the previous season due to a variety of shoulder issues that necessitated surgery and eventually ruined his season, the conservative decision to start the season in Low-A made a lot of sense. The New York native still managed to cut.342/.415/.493 in 20 games, split between the FCL and Palm Beach, prior to his injury.

This season, the 23-year-old has spent the majority of his time in center field, appearing in 26 games there and two more in left field. So far this season, in more than 223 innings, he has not made a mistake. Moving around the outfield positions with Zach Levenson, another outstanding outfield prospect, is the goal.

On Tuesday night, Honeyman made his High-A debut for Peoria, going 1-3 with a walk and collecting his first hit at the level. But he left the game going to first base on Wednesday, ending his second game. He immediately departed the game after being observed pulling at his calf.

The extent of Honeyman’s injury is still unknown, but once he rejoins Peoria’s lineup, he will be a player to monitor.
