An ESPN Radio broadcaster is providing Shohei Ohtani with an unexpected incentive if he wasn’t already keen to return to the mound.
As the first player in Major League Baseball history to smash 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases, Ohtani created history last year. For that one, ESPN Los Angeles presenter D’Marco Farr remained dressed. However, Farr will be so thrilled that he will arrive at work nude if Ohtani ever hits for the cycle in the same game that he is pitching.
Clinton Yates stated on his Wednesday morning broadcast on ESPN Los Angeles that he thinks Ohtani will ultimately pitch in the same game and bat for the cycle. Prior to his co-host vowing to strip off if and when the accomplishment is achieved, that is.
“I believe Shohei Ohtani will be the first pitcher to hit for the cycle in Major League Baseball,” Yates stated. “What I’m trying to say is that I believe it will occur in a game that he adds.
“No, that isn’t feasible,” Farr said. To hit and pitch in order to complete a cycle? That isn’t feasible. Put an end to the game.
Yates pointed out that Ohtani’s seven triples and 59 stolen bases from the previous season demonstrated his ability to run the bases. Ohtani has already hit 20 home runs this season, including four triples, and we haven’t yet reached the halfway point.
He is among the team’s top baserunners. He makes several triples. “Dog, this is in play,” Yates demanded. “This is what I personally want to see Shohei Ohtani do next.”
If that ever occurs, Farr vowed, “I will come in here naked.” “I’m only expressing how certain I am… Come on, there’s no way.”
This is the kind of wager that was made prior to the Shohei Ohtani rule, which permitted him to play both DH and pitcher in the same game. But Ohtani hitting for the cycle while pitching appears quite possible now that MLB has allowed him to play two positions in the same game. First Take most likely won’t discuss it at all the next morning if it does occur. Baseball fans need not worry, though, since Farr will discuss it in a nude manner on ESPN LA 710.
