According to the team’s transaction record, right-handed pitcher Kyle Funkhouser signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week.
Funkhouser was playing in Mexico after missing nearly three seasons due to injury. He joined the Mexican League’s Guerreros de Oaxaca in April. The right-hander pitched 26 innings and finished 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 24 strikeouts.
Despite having played in 70 major league games during his career with the Detroit Tigers, he hasn’t thrown in the major leagues since 2021.

The Dodgers selected the 31-year-old with the 35th overall choice in the 2015 draft, but the two teams were never able to come to an agreement to sign him.
Over his 85.2 innings thrown in the major leagues, Funkhouser has a lifetime 4.20 ERA, 75 strikeouts, and 1.506 WHIP. His most recent Major League Baseball squad was the Texas Rangers. The franchise signed the right-hander to a minor league deal in January 2023, but at the end of the season, he chose to be a free agent.
Both the starting rotation and the bullpen have been weakened by the Dodgers’ pitching ailments. Therefore, it is hoped that Funkhouser’s addition would provide the pitching staff some much-needed depth.
In an attempt to address the Dodgers’ pitching shortage, a number of minor league pitchers have been brought up, suggesting Funkhouser may eventually make it to the major leagues.
