For this week’s series against the Chicago White Sox, the Detroit Tigers may have two starters on the injury list and two TBAs listed.
However, the pitching situation for the Tigers isn’t as unstable—dare we say chaotic—as it might seem.
The first game of the four-game series will be pitched by right-hander Jack Flaherty at Rate Field on Monday at 7:40 p.m. Eastern. The final will be pitched by right-hander Casey Mize on Thursday.
Officially, the two games in between are still up in the air. On Tuesday, a bullpen game is anticipated, and on Wednesday, Sawyer Gipson-Long will make his comeback after more than a year on the disabled list.
Lefty Tarik Skubal is anticipated to start on Friday when the Tigers return home for a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs, gaining an additional day off. Keider Montero would then be ready to throw on Saturday, and Sunday may see another bullpen game.
It is not anticipated that Reese Olson (finger) will be sidelined for very long. Depending on his effectiveness upon his return, the Tigers may choose to option Gipson-Long or Montero.

On a roll on the road
Since September 1, 2023, the Tigers have won 10 straight games at Rate Field going into this week’s matchup. In Chicago, it’s the team’s longest winning run ever.
The 10-game run matches for the second-longest road winning streak against a single opponent in Tigers history, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The only longer streaks were 11 consecutive victories at Griffith Stadium in Washington (1949–50) and Target Field in Minnesota (September 15, 2015–September 22, 2016). Additionally, the Tigers won ten straight games in American League Park in Washington (1907), Cleveland Stadium (1966–67), and Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City (1983–85).
