The Detroit Tigers dominated Monday night, winning 13-1 to begin a four-game series against the Chicago White Sox. After the Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, the bats were on fire all night. Kerry Carpenter was the best Tiger, but several others had outstanding performances. Three of Detroit’s five home runs throughout the contest came from Carpenter’s bat.
Kerry Carpenter resumed his customary three-spot in the Tigers’ lineup after Parker Meadows recovered from his injury. Prior to this game, he had been a little underwhelming, but on Monday night, he was unstoppable.
According to an MLB.com story, Tigers manager AJ Hinch stated following the game, “Obviously, those are special nights, and Carp can do it.” “I’m not sure how frequently people witness [a three-homer game], but he’s just as dangerous as anyone when he gets good pitches to hit.” Seeing him connect was pleasant.
Carpenter had a chance to make it four when he came up in the eighth inning after hitting his third home run in the sixth. Carpenter’s name was being chanted by Tigers supporters who crowded the Chicago park. Regretfully, he flew out after getting a little under.
“Obviously, I was confident and trying to hit a good pitch,” Carpenter remarked. In the end, his pitch was successful. I kind of wish I could have swung, missed, and received a better one instead. I was trying [for a fourth], but he did make a terrific pitch there. I tried.
Hitting three home runs in a single game is the best way to get out of a rut. Monday night could have been the ideal reset for Carpenter, who hadn’t been feeling like himself at the plate.
“It’s just like the ups and downs of the season, where you go have a night like tonight,” he remarked. “I haven’t seen the ball particularly well the last week or so, so it’s just like, the only constant is Jesus Christ, and that’s what my hope is in. He then grants me a night like this one. It truly is a blessing.
