Zach Neto, an automatic runner, scored on a bases-loaded double play groundout by Taylor Ward to help the Los Angeles Angels defeat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday.

The Angels won back-to-back games for the first time since ending an eight-game winning run on May 23 thanks to two RBIs from Nolan Schanuel and two hits and an RBI from Neto.

Reid Detmers recorded his first save, and Kenley Jansen (1-2) won the game with a scoreless ninth inning. Since the statistic was made official in 1969, Detmers is one of just two pitchers in franchise history to record a no-hitter and save, along with Nolan Ryan and Mike Witt.

Schanuel led off the 10th with a sacrifice bunt that was bobbled by reliever Zack Kelly (1-2), enabling Neto to go to third. Mike Trout then walked to load the bases.

Kelly went 3-0 to Ward before he grounded into the double play. However, it made it possible for Neto to score, giving the Angels the lead.

Boston lost for the eighth time in ten games despite two RBIs from Ceddanne Rafaela and one from Jarren Duran.

Yusei Kikuchi, the starter for Los Angeles, gave up three runs off of eight hits and five walks in five innings and three batters. Additionally, he had five strikeouts, including his 900th in the major leagues.

Brayan Bello of Boston broke a five-game slide in which he failed to complete at least five innings. In six innings, he gave up three runs off seven hits.

Trevor Story led off with a walk in the sixth inning with Boston down 3-1. Rafaela proceeded to drive Kikuchi’s 89 mph slider 426 feet over the Green Monster by jumping on it.

Boston’s record in one-run games this season is at 6–17.
