Ronny Mauricio is reportedly being called up by the Mets to join them in Los Angeles.
It is anticipated that Mauricio will take Mark Vientos’ position on the roster after the third baseman/designated hitter sustained a hamstring injury on Monday.
This season, Mauricio, who had ACL surgery in December 2023, has been a sensation in the junior leagues. He’s scorching in his 39 plate appearances with Triple-A Syracuse. 323/.384/.508 with 11 RBI and three home homers.
At his news conference on Friday, David Stearns, president of baseball operations for the Mets, mentioned Mauricio.
“He’s doing a great job,” Stearns stated. “Health and increasing volume are the top priorities, and we’re going to keep doing that, but you pay attention anytime you see players hitting lasers all over the field, which is what he’s doing in Triple-A right now.”

Mauricio, who can play shortstop, second base, and outfield, hasn’t really found a place on the Mets roster up to this point. Three players (Jeff McNeil, Brett Baty, and Luisangel Acuña) can play second base, two (Francisco Lindor and Acuña) can play shortstop, and seven (Juan Soto, Brandon Nimmo, Tyrone Taylor, Starling Marte, José Azocar, McNeil, and Baty) can play outfield.
