
The New York Mets defeated the very skilled Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on the road Wednesday night. In six innings of work, right-handed starter Griffin Canning gave up only three hits and no runs, demonstrating his mastery of the game.
In the fifth inning, with a base on and two outs, Canning got Shohei Ohtani looking with a nasty fastball, resulting in one of his seven strikeouts. During their Wednesday night games, Canning and Ohtani, who were formerly teammates with the Los Angeles Angels, had a good time, but nothing topped Canning’s slick gesture after striking out the current NL MVP.

With the victory, the Mets moved up to 39-23 and are now leading the NL East. The Dodgers are now only one game ahead of the Padres in the NL West after dropping to 37-25.
