The first step is to make sense of the money. Then make it logical! Why would the St. Louis Cardinals, a team that has been playing excellent baseball lately, possibly give up third baseman Nolan Arenado, a future Hall of Famer? He still has a contract with the Cardinals for the upcoming seasons, but now that he is far into his mid-30s, he doesn’t seem to be the same prolific player as before.

Not to claim that this is the precise reason John Mozeliak would sell Arenado too soon, but the Cardinals should be alright if the appropriate offers come up. This is a result of the Cardinals’ abundance of talented in-house prospects for extensions. Brendan Donovan, Ivan Herrera, Matthew Liberatore, Victor Scott II, and Masyn Winn were the five people mentioned by Josh Jacobs of Redbird Rants.

Jacobs contended that the Cardinals may still receive good value there even if it might be a little early to extend Liberatore and Scott. Given Donovan’s incredible start to the season, St. Louis could have wasted their chance to extend him. Now, as far as Winn and Herrera are concerned, extend them! This just indicates that Arenado is more replaceable than we initially believed due to his.228 batting average.

St. Louis has a solid 33-26 season record going into Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.

What kind of team could be interested in trading for Nolan Arenado?

Apart from winning a World Series, Arenado has accomplished practically everything on the baseball diamond thus far, much like his former Cardinals colleague Paul Goldschmidt. At this point in his career, Arenado has not yet played for a true winner, despite being a few years younger than Goldschmidt. We are all familiar with the Colorado Rockies. St. Louis has not been performing up to par until this year.

Even if there isn’t a wage cap in baseball, you can’t continue to give fading players like Arenado huge salaries. His finest years as a major leaguer are definitely over, but I still believe he has a few more to go. Maybe he could acquire the ring he wants with a change of scenery? I’m not sure whether St. Louis has what it takes to win the National League, but they should be a playoff club.

Although trading Arenado would be highly contentious, it would make sense if it frees up extension funds.
