There were still whispers of a Nolan Arenado deal, and one American League player may try again to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals as their third baseman.

Marc Feinsand of MLB.com tweeted on Wednesday that the New York Yankees could try to acquire Arenado again before the July 31 trade deadline. Upgrades at third base are a top priority for the Yankees, and Arenado may be available.

The Detroit Tigers may be interested in acquiring a third baseman like Arenado, Feinsand added.

The Cardinals’ record is one challenging element. They are tied for the second National League Wild Card slot and started play Thursday at 47-41. A bad July could be necessary to persuade the Cardinals to let go of Arenado.
