On Monday, the Miami Heat announced that Auburn guard had re-signed with the organization.
Mitchell, a restricted free agent this summer, signed a two-year, $24 million, fully guaranteed contract with the Heat.
For the 2025–26 season, Mitchell will be an option in the Miami backcourt with guards Tyler Herro and Norman Powell, who both average 20 points or more per game. In a three-team deal that also included the Utah Jazz, Powell left the Los Angeles Clippers for the Heat on Monday.
After he signed the deal, Mitchell declared, “We’re going to the championship.”
On February 6, Mitchell was traded to Miami from the Toronto Raptors. Mitchell averaged 6.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 24.5 minutes per game while playing with the Raptors, starting half of his 44 games. Mitchell averaged 10.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.4 steals in 31.6 minutes per game while playing with the Heat, starting half of his 30 regular-season games.
Mitchell’s 3-point shooting percentage was 44.7 percent with Miami and 35.9 percent with Toronto.
The Heat advanced to the NBA playoffs as the No. 8 seed in the East after defeating the Atlanta Hawks 123-114 in a play-in game, led by Mitchell’s 16 points, including nine in overtime. In the first-round series, Mitchell averaged 15.0 points and 6.3 assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers swept Miami in four games.
“Obviously, I’m a little anxious, but I’m excited to be back and play for the next two years,” Mitchell remarked. “I adore the Miami fan base, the coaching staff, and everything they do.” Feel wonderful, really excellent. I’m happy to be back.
We didn’t really have much time to practice after the trade deadline, but now that we’re at a training camp and can simply hang out together, I think we’ll feel more at ease playing together. We get to know one other better just by supporting one another. Without a doubt, we’ll be a lot stronger squad.
During his first year at Auburn in 2017–18, Mitchell participated in 34 games. He transferred to Baylor from the Tigers. In the 2021 NBA Draft, Mitchell was chosen by the Sacramento Kings with the ninth overall pick from the Bears.
Before being traded to Toronto last summer, Mitchell spent his first three NBA seasons with the Kings.
Mitchell has averaged 7.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 22.1 minutes per game over 301 NBA regular-season games, including 69 starts. Mitchell’s defensive prowess at neutralizing elite scorers has given him the moniker “Off-Night.”
“The fans’ love for me makes me very happy,” Mitchell stated. “I simply try to go out there and give it my all while playing.” To be honest, I don’t do anything exciting. It’s thrilling that people are truly listening and are aware of how hard he is playing for our team because I simply go out there and play hard for them.

Mitchell’s career earnings over his first four seasons totaled $21,001,517.
