Sean Murphy and Drake Baldwin are two of the Atlanta Braves’ best catchers at the moment. The organization may be able to take advantage of Murphy’s worth in a trade, even if it is anticipated that they will play both stars and rotate them at designated hitter.
There would undoubtedly be several suitors for the veteran if the Braves put Murphy up for trade. Murphy is among the top catchers in the major leagues, where they are highly valued.
Earlier this week, Christopher Kline of FanSided made the prediction that Murphy would be acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates this winter.
“The Pittsburgh Pirates, who can entice the Braves with a deep well of young pitchers, are among the few teams that need bats the most,” Kline said. “Murphy has recently struggled with injuries, but when he was well, he would play every day in Pittsburgh and give Paul Skenes and a young pitching staff great advice.”
Murphy would provide the Pirates some much-needed spark in their lineup. The Pirates have a lot of prospect capital to offer the Braves in a possible trade, which is the most intriguing aspect of this concept.
Pittsburgh may be able to get Murphy for the upcoming seasons by trading from its vast pitching depth. Because of Baldwin, Atlanta would have more pitching depth to develop going forward without having to make many big league sacrifices. The Pirates would acquire the desired middle-of-the-order batsman.
