The Philadelphia Phillies signed Kyle Schwarber for $150 million this winter, demonstrating their earnest pursuit of Bo Bichette and their desire for a top free-agent hitter.

However, the outfield market hasn’t been closely associated with the Phillies. Other than signing Adolis Garcia to a $10 million, one-year contract, they haven’t taken any significant action.
However, Gary Sheffield Jr., the son of New York Yankees player Gary Sheffield, made an audacious but absurd forecast about Tucker on Twitter/x: the ace outfielder will sign a $288 million free-agent contract with the Phillies.
Phillies predicted to sign Kyle Tucker to $288M deal by son of ex-Yankees slugger
“My guess on Kyle Tucker is 8-years, $288M to Philadelphia,” Yankees Unloaded presenter Sheffield Jr. said.
For a variety of reasons, Tucker’s signing with the Phillies this offseason would be shocking. The Phillies aren’t expected to spend a lot of money on someone this winter, and they haven’t once been connected to Tucker.
They will be able to cut the AAV to a manageable level and fit Bichette’s new contract on their payroll, which is one of the reasons they are interested in him.
Tucker would be $36 million AAV at this estimated $288 million, eight-year contract, which is outside the Phillies’ budget.
Tucker hasn’t been connected to Philadelphia this winter, and although they could use him because they need to improve their outfield, Tucker is unlikely to visit Philadelphia.
Tucker’s signing by the Phillies makes sense in a vacuum, but it’s by no means a realistic relationship. Beyond conjecture, the Phillies haven’t been connected to Tucker once this winter and haven’t expressed a desire to expand their outfield.
Fans of the Phillies would be thrilled about Sheffield’s prediction since they would be acquiring the best outfielder available. However, it is utterly impractical.
Neither the Phillies nor any other team have expressed interest in Tucker, nor has an MLB insider predicted or projected the two together.
The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets appear to be in a two-man contest for Tucker’s market. Tucker is most likely headed to the Mets or Blue Jays, while the Los Angeles Dodgers and a few other teams may be interested.
Tucker has not been linked to the Phillies this offseason and is probably not going to be. Sheffield Jr.’s prognosis is absurd because the Phillies have never been considered a strong candidate for Tucker this winter.
