The Philadelphia Phillies’ roster for the next season is mostly unchanged from the previous one.
However, they still intend to fire one player before the upcoming season.
“The Phillies still want to let go one star player prior to spring training, but nothing has changed. They are looking for someone to cover even a little portion of his $20 million income.

In March, Castellanos will turn 34.
He just finished a season where he batted.250 with 17 home runs.
For the 2025 season, his Wins Above Replacement statistic was negative—0.8.
Castellanos is an obvious liability in right field, and his.694 OPS in 2025 won’t help either if he’s exclusively a DH at this point.
Before moving to Philadelphia, he played as a slugger for the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago Cubs, and the Cincinnati Reds.
Castellanos’ hitting was sufficient to compensate for his other shortcomings when he first joined the Phillies.
However, he is now a bad defensive player, strikes out a lot, and doesn’t walk much.
It makes reasonable that the Phillies would want to move on, but perhaps he can still use his power somewhere else.
It’s unclear how this might finish just yet because it’s a large wage for a guy who isn’t very valuable at this stage of his career.
