The current farm system of the St. Louis Cardinals has several positive aspects.

Given that Baseball America named the Cardinals’ farm system the second-best in baseball, that is somewhat of an understatement. In contrast, Baseball America ranked St. Louis’ farm system at No. 18 in 2025.

Joshua Baez is enjoying a breakout season with Springfield

Since taking over, Chaim Bloom, president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, has been working diligently to strengthen this farm system by trading veterans away. That’s not all, though. Additionally, the club’s ranking has benefited from internal development. Joshua Baez, a teenage outfielder, is one player who has drawn attention. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said that his locker is on the “same side of the clubhouse” as Cardinals position players with major league tenure, though it’s still unknown if he will join the big league team after camp.

The Cardinals have a lot to be excited about

“After spending each of his first four spring trainings since turning pro on the minor league side of the Cardinals complex in Jupiter, Florida, this spring brings a different feeling for outfield prospect Joshua Baez,” Goold stated.Baez, a member of the 40-man roster, is attending his first camp with the Cardinals. His locker is located on the same side of the clubhouse as those of Cardinals position players who get a lot of big league time.Despite feeling “far,” the environment is “what you work for,” according to 22-year-old Baez, who has spent the last few years working on the backfields.

Although this clearly does not certain that Baez will have a major league job after camp, it does demonstrate how his successful 2025 season has changed people’s opinions of him.

Baez fulfilled all of the club’s expectations in 2025. During his stint at High-A Peoria and Double-A Springfield, he appeared in 117 games and slashed.287/.384/.500 with 20 home runs, 79 RBIs, 54 stolen bases, 23 doubles, and 78 runs scored.

The opportunity for the fan base to see potential players that could eventually aid the team is one of the nicest things about Spring Training. One person who meets that criteria is Baez.
