Bruce Pearl’s remarks regarding whether Miami (Ohio) should be in the NCAA Tournament if the RedHawks don’t win their conference tournament, despite the team being 30-0 thus far this season with one game remaining before postseason play, appear to have generated a lot of opinions.

The former head coach of Auburn basketball is making the case that, should the RedHawks lose, other teams in big conferences should be given a chance to bid over them. Naturally, he is making every effort to suggest that his son’s team, Auburn, might be one of those teams.

David Sayler, the athletic director at Miami, addressed Pearl’s remarks on Twitter earlier this week.

“@coachbrucepearl, you are completely incorrect about @MiamiOH_BBall when you claim that we would place last in the Big East. You shouldn’t be near a TV studio covering this sport when you display your true colors because the disrespect is terrible. “Nice work! You even included a “we” when discussing Auburn!”

Travis Steele has words for Bruce Pearl

Travis Steele, the head coach of the RedHawks, now had the opportunity to address Pearl during a press conference on Wednesday.

Steele remarked, “I like Bruce (Pearl).” Bruce is a wonderful man. However, I’m not going to phone Bruce and ask what he thinks of our team. With all due respect, Bruce is a far superior coach than I will ever be. He is a member of the Hall of Fame. However, we are in charge of our own fate.

No matter how bad their schedule is or how they play in a weak league, you cannot deny what the RedHawks have done so far this season. It takes ability, concentration, perseverance, and, yes, a little bit of luck to win every game in a season, especially when the winning streak begins to accumulate and teams are giving you their best chance.

It would be unfortunate if the RedHawks’ achievements go away without an NCAA Tournament bid if they are somewhat trounced in the MAC Tournament next week.
