Guard Cayden Boozer had spent a large portion of his childhood in the NBA before to joining the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team.
Boozer, who was raised in NBA stadiums, locker rooms, and team facilities, is the son of former All-Star Carlos Boozer. His passion for the game and the kind of player he aspires to be were shaped by those early encounters.
Among the NBA players he grew up watching, Russell Westbrook distinguished out for his unwavering enthusiasm and competitive spirit.
In an exclusive interview with Heavy Sports, Boozer stated, “I think Russell Westbrook is one of my favorite players.” “I simply think he’s always been a really great player, plays really hard, and just does whatever his team needs him to do.”
Russell Westbrook’s Relentless Style Stands Out
For a long time, Westbrook’s career has been characterized by his athleticism, intensity, and overall influence on the game. One of the league’s most dynamic guards and a former NBA MVP, he established his name via unwavering work ethic and fierce competition.
Boozer was deeply impacted by that way of thinking.
The young Duke guard most admires Westbrook’s determination to impact the game in a variety of ways, including playmaking, scoring, and grabbing rebounds.
Boozer remarked, “He plays really hard and just does whatever his team needs him to do.”
Growing Up Around the NBA
Boozer grew up surrounded by basketball.
His father, Carlos Boozer, had a 13-year NBA career that includes time with the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Utah Jazz, where he was an All-Star.
Cayden and his twin brother Cameron Boozer spent a large portion of their childhood seeing the professional game up close as a result of that career.
“Obviously, having a dad who plays that major puts us in a lot of great situations where we were just able to be around the game for basically our entire lives,” Cayden remarked.
Going to the Bulls facility or, of course, watching playoff games are examples of that.
“But just consider how long we’ve been around the game and how deeply ingrained our current passion for it is.”
Building His Own Role at Duke
Boozer is starting to forge his own route at the collegiate level as a great player for the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team.
Cayden has established a consistent spot in Duke’s backcourt rotation, while his twin brother Cameron has become one of the most formidable players in college basketball.
This season, the rookie guard is contributing to the Blue Devils’ success by averaging 6.8 points and 2.8 assists in 20.7 minutes per game.
With an average of 22.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, Cameron Boozer has been the team’s main driver as Duke has risen to the top of the national rankings.
Cayden Boozer has not yet been frequently predicted as a lottery pick, despite Cameron’s continued prominence in early NBA mock drafts.
This raises the prospect that Cayden might play one more season at Duke before entering the NBA draft.
Boozer told Heavy Sports, “There’s a lot of season left, so we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.” “But for now, I’m just concentrating on what I can do every single day to improve.”
Growing Spotlight for the Boozer Twins
Beyond the court, the Boozer twins have become more well-known.
Recently, Cameron and Cayden starred in State Farm’s “Will You Be There?” basketball commercial as part of a nationwide advertising campaign, demonstrating their increasing prominence in the sport.
However, Cayden Boozer’s basketball career still has its roots in the players he looked up to as a child.
Long before he came to Duke, his perception of the game was shaped by seeing players like Russell Westbrook compete with unrelenting ferocity.
Boozer, who is currently pursuing his own career with the Blue Devils, is still motivated by the same spirit of competition that made Westbrook one of the NBA’s most explosive guards.
