Despite losing a few important players in trades this offseason, the Milwaukee Brewers hope to make significant progress in 2026.
Freddy Peralta, the team’s star pitcher, was traded to the New York Mets, while Caleb Durbin was traded to the Boston Red Sox. Peralta is a significant loss, but the right-hander they acquired in exchange has already shown promise.
In the wake of the Peralta blockbuster, Brewers head of baseball operations Matt Arnold stated that the team is “thrilled” to have righty pitcher Brandon Sproat on the roster, as Jim Bowden of The Athletic reported.

Brewers ‘thrilled’ with Brandon Sproat already
“Sproat came in as part of a big trade for Freddy Peralta but has fit right into the group immediately,” Arnold stated. “In many aspects, he’s been really amazing. Our coaches say he’s been a pleasure to work with, and he’s a really athletic and kind kid. We are overjoyed to have him.
Peralta was traded by the Brewers in the last year of his club control, which was a huge decision for the franchise. Sproat, a 25-year-old right-handed pitching prospect, was the Mets’ main attraction.
Despite the short time since Sproat joined the Brewers, the staff and team have been ecstatic to have him.
He has a 5.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 9.0 innings after three starts this spring training. In four starts over 20.2 innings during the 2025 regular season, he had a 4.79 ERA.
He is a pitcher with some potential, even though he hasn’t shown much in either spring training or his Major League appearances thus far.
Sproat recorded a 3.40 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) during his first season in the minor leagues in 2024. He advanced swiftly from High-A to Double-A and ultimately Triple-A.
Then, in 2025, Sproat made 25 starts in 26 games in Triple-A before making his MLB debut. He recorded an 8-6 record, 113 strikeouts, and a 4.24 ERA.
Although Sproat still needs to improve as a pitcher, the early indications in Milwaukee have been positive. The 25-year-old righty will be a crucial member of the team in 2026 and beyond, so the Brewers are ecstatic to have him.
