“I’m thrilled about the chance to travel to Indianapolis and play against another elite opponent on ESPN,” Pearl stated. “Doing this is preferable to sitting around doing nothing.”

After a short break between games, Auburn is well-rested going into the game, which Pearl feels has been crucial at this point in the season.

“Having a little time off to get treatments, rest, get off their feet, and just kind of recharge for this last push has been really beneficial for our guys,” he added.

Illinois State’s resume is as good as any

With one of the best resumes among the remaining NIT teams, Illinois State poses a serious threat. Wake Forest, Dayton, and Kent State have all been defeated by the Redbirds, who have also won back-to-back Quad 1 games away from home.

“If you look at the NIT teams’ resumes, they have the best one by far,” Pearl remarked.

Illinois State’s physicality and effort are particularly noteworthy on defense. Pearl highlighted their capacity to maintain self-control while performing.

He remarked, “They play hard, are really good defensively, and try to make things difficult for you.” “They do a fantastic job of contesting without fouling, make multiple efforts, and are very physical at the point of attack.”

With several players who can quickly heat up, the Redbirds are a threat from beyond the arc as well.

Pearl remarked, “It’s a team that can get hot in bunches.” “We must identify the shooters, be unable to provide poor assistance, and maintain a high standard.”

Inside, Auburn will have to slow down Chase Walker, who Pearl called a challenging opponent.

Pearl remarked, “He’s an absolute handful.” “His physicality has a great effect on the game, and he can score with either hand and bury you.”

Pearl attributed Auburn guard Keyshawn Hall’s progress throughout the postseason to his mentality.

“When the season ended, he was one of the main guys who wanted to keep playing basketball and made that very vocal,” Pearl remarked. “I give him a lot of credit for that.”

Pearl is fond of Hinkle Fieldhouse, a historic location where the semifinal will take place.
