The St. Louis Cardinals are hoping to win two straight after defeating the Chicago Cubs in July for the first time. They also want to know if Nolan Arenado, who missed the last game due to a right shoulder impingement, will be playing.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the lineup initially gave the impression that Arenado had little chance of playing.

“Nolan Arenado is not in the starting lineup. Goold said on X, previously Twitter, that “stlcards planned for him to go through evaluations today to determine severity/recovery of right shoulder.”

Then, Arenado was seen trying his shoulder in the field.

“Arenado is testing his shoulder and will argue for a spot in the starting lineup once it feels better. Goold added, “Says the off day is a factor here for extra recovery.”

After hurting his index finger against the Cleveland Guardians earlier in the week, Arenado had missed two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It’s possible that the Cardinals are only attempting to exercise caution with him given his history of ailments.

Additionally, he has been the subject of trade rumors for a while, and injuries like these might reduce his worth or deter teams from making a move for him altogether. Without a doubt, Arenado is aware of the trade speculations, and he recently discussed the team’s performance in spite of external events.

Arenado remarked, “I like playing baseball like this, against the Cubs, where games matter, just seeing everyone, one through nine, contributing.” That’s what you want to play for as you get older. Playing games for the sake of playing them is not what you desire. I’ve achieved a few things in this sport on my own, and now all I want is to win a World Series and do something unique and team-oriented. I haven’t been to the ballpark this eager for a series like this in about two years.
