The Philadelphia Phillies’ starting pitcher, Ranger Suárez, is anticipated to depart the organization this winter due to free agency. Suárez’s departure won’t hurt the Phillies because they have a strong rotation.

Suárez is expected to sign a massive five-year, $110 million contract with the Detroit Tigers this winter, according to Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball.

“I like the idea of Suarez landing in Detroit, but he should have a long list of suitors.” For the 2026 season, the Tigers might need a No. 2 starter behind Tarik Skubal, according to Finkelstein. “If Skubal is traded or walks, the Tigers will at least have a reliable arm at the top of their rotation that might be more affordable than Skubal.”

Given that the Tigers may lose Tarik Skubal in the upcoming months, Suárez might be a significant addition to their rotation. Although he wouldn’t have the same dominance and consistency as the Tigers’ Cy Young winner, he would be a good replacement for Skubal.

It would make perfect sense for the Tigers to acquire Suárez for about $110 million as they also need to bolster their roster. The Tigers would be able to add a star hitter with the money saved from this kind of deal.
