This past season, the San Diego Padres made it to the playoffs but were eliminated early. AJ Preller, general manager and president of baseball operations, was questioned regarding Fernando Tatis Jr.’s possible trade market availability as the team looks to make some roster adjustments.

According to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Preller dispelled any rumors that the Padres could trade Tatis. It’s obvious that Preller has no plans to trade the 26-year-old outfielder.

Preller remarked, “He’s someone we’re not talking about.” “But you want to say that; you can say that it’s ‘untouchable.'”

2025 is perhaps Fernando Tatis Jr.’s best season to date. The three-time All-Star continued to play exceptionally well even if he hasn’t yet hit the 42 home runs he did in 2021. Tatis recorded 159 hits, 25 home runs, and 71 RBIs throughout the season, finishing with a batting average of.268 and an OBP of.368. In addition, he participated in 155 games and stole 32 bases, both of which are career highs.

It would be quite surprising if San Diego were to move Fernando Tatis Jr. given that level of output. It appears that the Padres intend to develop around Tatis in order to advance farther in the 2026 postseason.

The Padres intend to retain him for a long time, as seen by the 14-year, $340 million contract he signed in 2021. The agreement will only be in its sixth year when the 2026 campaign takes place. Therefore, we should anticipate seeing Fernando Tatis Jr. play for this team for a considerable amount of time based on the deal and AJ Preller’s previous remarks.
