It’s unique when you do something for the first time in 36 years. That becomes much more significant when you do it at the University of Kentucky, where history is engraved all around you.

In their victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon, the Kentucky basketball team achieved just that.
According to UK statistician Corey Price, Kentucky’s 91-77 victory over Vanderbilt was the biggest margin of victory at Rupp Arena while Kentucky was unranked and its opponent was ranked. The last time was on January 17, 1990, when the Cats defeated #25 Alabama by a score of 17.
Before facing SEC-leading Florida on Saturday to end the season, the Cats will now want to secure a top-4 SEC Tournament spot when they play Texas A&M on Tuesday night.
The Cats have a chance to earn the coveted double bye, which will give them an extra day of rest—a benefit that will be helpful when the games become intense in March—thanks to Tennessee’s loss to Alabama.
