In the first five minutes of today’s game against Florida, Kentucky basketball played like a squad with no self-confidence.

Florida went on an 11-0 run to start the game while the Cats were shooting 1-8. From that point on, the Cats appeared to be vanquished. Even though they made a comeback, their terrible start prevented them from overcoming a double-digit hole, as they have done numerous times this year.

Goose Givens made an amazing speech on the radio following the game.

Mark Pope prioritizes players with winning DNA when building a roster

He stated that he didn’t believe the Kentucky players believed they could defeat Florida.

What does it say about your squad if a former player or current analyst observes that you need to win a game on Senior Day? What does that say about you as a member of the coaching staff? Under Mark Pope, this team has experienced a string of poor starts. Vanderbilt, St. John’s, Indiana, Gonzaga, Michigan State, Louisville, Tennessee twice, and others all had awful beginnings. I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

Mark Pope on the loss to Florida today: "I think it's still a work in progress. Ask me when it's over." Does he not realize he is coaching for his job and

Goose Givens is not an unknown individual who chose to disparage the squad. With a 41-point outburst against Duke in the championship game, this legend from Kentucky helped guide the Cats to the promised land.

And before the game, he observes something in the players?

Coach Mark Pope is trying to sell a message that his team isn’t interested in.

Mark Pope sounded like a coach pleading with his teammates to believe. Pope talked extensively on belief on the radio with Tom Leach. We’re going to win now that we’re in the postseason. We hope that this will serve as a trigger for us to become believers.

Hopefully?

Man, this is game 31. Given everything that has already occurred, you will never become a believer if you are not one now.

Kentucky will now play on Wednesday, the first day of the SEC Tournament, with a coach attempting to inspire players who don’t appear to believe.I think we’ll prevail. To win, we’re traveling to Nashville. We are eager to get started. Our guys, in my opinion, have one goal in mind when they travel to Nashville: to win. He’s making an effort, but if Goose is correct, it isn’t succeeding.

A team wearing Kentucky white should never intimidate anyone. Under Mark Pope, the cats much too frequently feel like the prey, even though they should always be the predators.

Can they make things better in Nashville?
