Jon Scheyer’s major Patrick Ngongba gamble went perfectly for Duke
Usually, it’s simple to focus most of the attention on players like Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans. But in this instance, it’s time to give Dame Sarr some affection. It’s easy to forget that he was a five-star playmaker for Scheyer’s elite 2026 class while averaging just over six points per game.
The former Barcelona prospect finished the game with 14 points in the victory over TCU, including 4-of-7 from outside the arc. When the Blue Devils needed him, Sarr was prepared to connect on some big shots, and more of the same will be required if this club is to go far.
When the ball struck the bottom of the cotton against the Horned Frogs, Sarr’s shot looked amazing. This game was tight at one point, but Duke pulled away in a stunning manner to win by 23 points.
Fans are ecstatic about Sarr’s performance in particular, and it happened at the perfect moment. His recruitment was fascinating because it appeared at one point that Kansas and Bill Self might prevail in the recruiting contest.
Scheyer and Duke continued to pursue him, though, and the ACC team prevailed thanks to an official visit from Durham. Has Sarr met the high standards set for him? No, we don’t mind stating that.
That being said, this staff was looking for him to be a dependable shooter for Scheyer in March. Duke will face either Kansas or St. John’s in the Sweet 16, which will be a difficult test. Yes, Rick Pitino or Self will be on the opposing bench and prepared to record a lesson in coaching. Sarr is on the list of people on Duke who must perform at their highest level as a result.
