In the 2019 MLB Draft, Rutledge was selected in the first round.
He has played with the Washington Nationals for all four of his Major League Baseball seasons.

The 27-year-old has a 6.29 ERA and a 5-3 record in 71 career games.

Before getting claimed by the Phillies, Rutledge had appeared in one game for the Nationals this season.

He didn’t participate in a Phillies game.

On May 10, Nationals Communications reported: “The Philadelphia Phillies claimed Jackson Rutledge off outright waivers.”

Rutledge went 0-0 with a 7.20 ERA in five games against their Triple-A club.
It will be fascinating to see if another team takes a risk on him before the 2026 season ends, given that he was such a recent top pick.
