This season, the San Diego Padres’ offense has been among the poorest in all of Major League Baseball. In 2026, Xander Bogaerts, Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, and Manny Machado have all had difficulties.

It’s obvious that this team needs A.J. Preller to swing a trade for some offensive assistance this summer if they hope to go on a postseason run, let alone make it there.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report ranked the Padres as the ideal destination in a trade for Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell, who has 37 home runs, due to their obvious need for offensive firepower.

“At this point in his career, Jo Adell is the kind of guy you buy low on and hope that there’s something there,” Rymer says. “… As for the Padres, it’s honestly unclear whether they need more pop or more of a spark.”

Adding assistance on the offensive end is crucial for this squad, regardless of what the Padres need. Additionally, Adell would be a good trade target for Preller this summer.

With Tatis alternating between right field and second base, San Diego’s right field position is now a bit of a mystery. Adding someone like Adell to solidify that position would be a good move for this team.

In his seventh major league season, he has a batting average of.240 and an OPS of.699 with the Angels this season. It would be superior to the majority of the Padres’ batters this season, even though it’s not the best.

He hit 37 home runs with an OPS of.778 only last season. Adell is someone worth taking a chance on, especially when you consider his better defense this season and his absurd three-home-run-robbery game earlier in the season.

He is 27 years old and will be managed by the club until the 2027 campaign. The Padres could switch to inferior choices for their outfield this season, even though he may have a career bWAR of 0.6 and a bWAR of -0.1.

Adell shouldn’t be too expensive, which is crucial for a Padres team that, following their shopping binge a year ago, doesn’t have the best farm system.

In addition to acquiring someone with strong pop and potential as a middle-of-the-order slugger to compensate for their core hitters’ lack of production this season, this would be a smart move for the Padres to attempt and strengthen an outfield spot.
