A deal with Chicago might be structured differently because the Cubs are a competitive team that could utilize pitching assistance at the MLB level.

In any case, it’s obvious that the Phillies have a need, and the fact that these names are already making the rounds indicates that a deal is most likely imminent; it just depends on who goes one way and who goes the other.

Fermin has been swinging a hot bat lately, so this is a bad move for the Padres. Due to a toe injury, his backup Luis Campusano is also out.

Fermin has an OPS of.505 this season and has hit.188 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in. June has seen all three of his home runs, and the seasoned catcher appears to be having a breakthrough.

Although concussions can be difficult to treat, it is hoped that Fermin won’t be out for very long. Jake Cronenworth, an infielder for the Padres, has been out for more than a month due to persistent concussion symptoms.

Fermin will be placed on the injured list, so Hunt will take over as the team’s backup catcher. When he plays in a game, Hunt will make his MLB debut. After playing in Rookie Ball earlier in the season, the catcher had spent the last eight games in Triple-A.

Hunt had an OPS of.837 while playing at Triple-A El Paso, hitting.269 with one home run and five runs batted in.

In 2017, the Padres signed Hunt to a $1.6 million contract after selecting him with the 69th overall pick. One of the best aspects of his game is his arm power, and he has also performed well when framing in the Padres system.

He is an enticing athlete because of his abilities, but he still needs to work on his offense. However, Hunt will have the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities to the Padres as he attempts to capitalize on the chance to support Rodolfo Durán.

Adcock hasn’t yet appeared in a major league game with the Padres this season. Adcock has played in the Arizona Complex League, Triple-A, and High-A, but this year he hasn’t been able to establish any kind of consistency.

Adcock recorded an ERA of 7.15 over 11.1 innings in 11 outings across all three locations.

In the eighth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Adcock was first selected by the Seattle Mariners.

After making his MLB debut in 2023 with the Mariners, he played for the New York Mets in 2024 and 2025.
