Although I’m not sure if the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays would want to trade during the deadline, I don’t think it’s absurd to suggest that it might occur.
Both clubs require a variety of things, and the Blue Jays are in the running to sign players that can help them win immediately. Some of those players, like veteran Willson Contreras, should be let go by the Red Sox.

Teams like the Blue Jays and San Diego Padres may be interested in Contreras, who has been a very excellent player throughout his career, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
“Contreras has been extremely productive in Boston, mashing on the road and thriving at Fenway Park, where he has an OPS above 1,000. The Red Sox are hesitant to trade him when he has two very reasonable years left on his contract and when they plan to compete in the upcoming years since he has been so productive offensively for a team that has been so awful. Jeff Passan said, “Combine that with Contreras’ no-trade clause and other teams’ perception that anything short of a huge overpay will make Contreras difficult to land.”
The Padres’ position is intriguing because prior reports suggested that they were considering Jarren Duran.
whether Toronto wants to acquire a guy of Contreras’ caliber, who many believe is one of the best infielders available at this deadline, it may need to be aware of that. I’m not sure whether they’re still a threat to make a deal in that aspect.
