The host Chicago White Sox defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0 on Thursday afternoon thanks to two singles and four RBIs from Luis Robert Jr., a three-run home run from Miguel Vargas, and six scoreless innings from Sean Burke.
With a fast, nine-hit offense and a strong pitching staff that delivered a combined two-hitter, Chicago avoided a three-game series sweep.
After escape first-inning difficulties, Burke (2-4) set the tone by retiring 15 of the remaining 17 Brewers he faced. Robert made a leaping grab to stop Rhys Hoskins from hitting a grand slam after the rookie right-hander walked the bases loaded and he fired a deep fly ball toward the wall in center field.
In the bottom of the inning, Robert singled for an RBI to start the scoring. In the sixth, he opened the scoring with a double that cleared the bases.
Rookie righty Chad Patrick (1-3), who missed a great start by one out, helped Milwaukee stay in the game. With four strikeouts and no walks in five and a third innings, Patrick scattered three runs and six hits.
After giving up Andrew Vaughn’s two-out single in the sixth, Patrick left the game. Vargas extended his hitting streak to eight games with a three-run blitz to meet reliever Craig Yoho.

In six innings, Burke scattered two hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Eric Haase’s double in the fifth inning was the lone extra-base hit he gave up.
Joey Ortiz earned Milwaukee’s only other hit.
Chicago has led or been tied after the fifth inning in eight consecutive games. Thursday marked just the third victory for the club over that span.
White Sox relievers Mike Vasil, Brandon Eisert, and Jared Shuster walked one and struck out four over the final three innings.
Chicago has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
The White Sox got their first victory against the Brewers since July 25, 2021. One season prior to the National League’s adoption of the designated hitter, then-Chicago right-hander Lance Lynn drove in two runs to help the team win 3-1.
