A new pitcher will be joining the St. Louis Cardinals. According to The Athletic, St. Louis is recalling Triple-A Memphis pitcher Michael McGreevy. The right-hander hasn’t participated in a Major League Baseball game this season.

Roddery Munoz is being optioned by St. Louis to create place for the pitcher. Munoz is returning to the minor leagues after recently joining the team from the same Memphis club.

His elevation came to McGreevy under some amusing circumstances.

When Michael McGreevy, who was called up today (Saturday), learned he was returning to the major leagues, he revealed he had just left the Marvel film Thunderbolts* on Friday night. John Denton of MLB.com said on X, previously Twitter, that “he drove up from Memphis this morning, packed his things, and went to Auto Zone Stadium.”

The season is not going well for the Cardinals. St. Louis, who play the New York Mets on Saturday, is 14-19 on the season.

The Cardinals are looking for some pop as the season moves along

As the MLB season progresses, the Cardinals are looking for solutions in a number of ways. St. Louis’s deficit in the National League Central is six games.

McGreevy might be the team’s solution. In 2024, the Cardinals pitcher had a respectable season. He played in four games and concluded the previous season with a 3-0 record. For St. Louis, he recorded a 1.96 ERA while giving up five earned runs.

McGreevy was with Memphis for a significant portion of the previous season. This year, he has made another appearance with that minor league team. As a starter for the Redbirds, he is 3-1 with a 4.08 ERA.

In addition, the pitcher is regarded as one of the team’s best prospects in general, not only as a pitcher.

According to FanSided, Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol praised McGreevy in the spring, saying, “He showed well and exactly as advertised by pounding the strike zone and living on the ground.” “He appears well [during this spring training].” I’m eager to see what comes out of that arm since he gained some weight and had a great summer.

This season, St. Louis is becoming desperate to get some pitching. According to league statistics, the team’s pitchers had the 27th-highest strikeout total in Major League Baseball. St. Louis ranks 20th in ERA, so the team is doing a little better there.

On Saturday, the Cardinals and Mets will play at 2:15 ET. New York has a 22-11 record going into the match.
