The skill was always there when Jackson Arnold was acquired by Auburn football through the transfer portal. When he returned to the SEC following a poor performance at Oklahoma, head coach Hugh Freeze was a bit dubious.
Arnold seems unafraid to take on some of the quarterback competition. Freeze was therefore honest about the success he witnessed from the quarterback on the transfer site.
Freeze stated on On3 Sports that he “just needed a restart for whatever reason.” And I’m ecstatic about what I witnessed. He’s got the arm skill, he’s got the legs, he’s got the football IQ. And I believe he simply needs confidence, and I think that confidence improved this spring, along with his rapport with our receivers.
But in all honesty, you probably won’t recover or acquire that swagger and confidence until we really succeed and go into the bows. However, I have a lot of faith in him and Deuce based on what I witnessed over the spring.
Before the season begins, Auburn football must make a difficult choice. Fortunately, they made the right choice in selecting their starting quarterback. It’s possible that Arnold needed a change of surroundings and that encouraging feedback in order to flourish.
Can Auburn football succeed with Jackson Arnold?
Answering that question is difficult given how Arnold’s time with Oklahoma ended. They took a step backward and had a dismal season.
They were unable to score despite having a top-tier defense.
Could Auburn experience the same thing?
Perhaps, but Freeze is a maestro of offense. He brought Liberty and other schools to the attention of the country. He can even lead a strong attack and knows how to win games.
Freeze may be the big shift he needs, as opposed to Brent Venables’s defensive mindset. Additionally, Arnold could benefit from a whole change of surroundings.
In any case, the SEC continues to be the most competitive college football conference. It may be difficult to defeat teams like Texas, Georgia, and even Oklahoma.
After all, with John Mateer, the latter was able to get a top quarterback through the transfer portal.
Ultimately, the countdown to the regular season has begun. By then, perhaps, Freeze will have a certain starting quarterback.
Based on his remarks, it appears that he is prepared to be patient with Arnold throughout his first Auburn football experience. However, the head coach may be seeking for his experience and expertise.
In the first week, they will play Baylor, and Arnold might be the Tigers’ top signal-caller.
