As other teams begin to realize the great athletes the Irish are bringing in, Freeman and his coaches may be receiving a dose of reality this week. The Georgia Bulldogs, for example, have targeted one ND commit, which may lead to a traditional recruitment battle.
Notre Dame commit Thomas Davis Jr. now on Georgia’s radar
Notre Dame coaches had to be a little bit nervous about Kirby Smart coming knocking for linebacker recruit Thomas Davis Jr. After all, the 4-star pledge out of North Carolina has extensive ties to Athens. At Georgia, his father, Thomas Davis Sr., was an All-American.
After playing for the Bulldogs from 2002 to 2004, the older Davis went on to have a prosperous NFL career. It’s a good guess that he’s feeling some major satisfaction in watching his kid now garner more attention from his alma institution.
Now, the true question is if Notre Dame’s commitment list, similar to that of the 2026 class, would be advantageous to them. Davis belongs to one of the nation’s top classes. They are ranked higher than Georgia on almost all recruiting websites.
Additionally, the Fighting Irish defeated Smart’s team on their way to the National Championship game. Freeman and almost will argue that his club is in a better position to win the championship in the upcoming year or two.
This is a race to watch, though. This spring, the Notre Dame football squad is gaining incredible momentum. Losing a commit who has been there since November of last year is the last thing the coaching staff wants to deal with.
