As expected, Jonathan Cannon won’t be out for long after being pulled from his most recent start on Saturday against the Rangers. Cannon is expected to start Tuesday’s game against the Mets after battling lower back discomfort.
Cannon gave allowed just two singles in the first five innings of his most recent appearance, which came against a formidable Cubs lineup. However, after left fielder Brooks Baldwin made a fielding mistake and Pete Crow-Armstrong doubled for an RBI, everything swiftly fell apart. The Cubs eventually won 6-2 after Cannon was pulled with runners on second and third who scored against White Sox reliever Steven Wilson to give them a 4-1 lead.
Cannon has pitched 23 innings with seven earned runs in his previous four starts, showing consistency. In his first six starts, he walked at least two hitters, but in his last four, he has walked none. He pitched six scoreless innings to help the White Sox defeat the Reds two starts ago. Against the Mets, he will want to maintain his recent run of excellent pitching.
