Brock Purdy has thrown for more yards in a season than any other 49ers quarterback.
With their victory on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers secured the top seed in the NFC. However, their victory created some franchise history. Quarterback Brock Purdy recovered from a disastrous Week 16 debut against the Baltimore Ravens. The Niners quarterback set the franchise record for most passing yards in a single season in Week 17.

In the triumph over the Washington Commanders, the Iowa State product threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns. He now has 4280 yards on the season, surpassing Jeff Garcia’s 4278 yards in 2000. Purdy discussed the record after the game.
“With the rich history this place has, to break a record like that, to me, on the human side, it’s like, ‘Cool,'” said the 49ers quarterback, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I was simply a youngster who wanted to play in the NFL. It’s quite cool to be able to achieve something like that.”

Over the years, the 49ers have had some great superstars at quarterback. Steve Young and Joe Montana are likely to spring to mind. However, neither could match Purdy’s total. Young had two 4000-yard seasons with the Niners, but Montana fell short of the milestone.
Throughout the 2023 season, the Iowa State product had numerous major moments. He has passed for 300 yards or more in five games this season. He threw for 360 yards or more in two of those games. He did so in a defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 and a win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14.

For the 49ers, Brock Purdy has been a revelation. In the playoffs, the NFC now passes via San Francisco. Let’s see how far the Niners and Purdy can go following a fantastic season for both the team and its leading quarterback.
