We decided to split ways with Ron Rivera today. I’d want to thank Ron and Stephanie for everything they did for the Commanders and the DMV community, particularly throughout the ownership transfer. Ron guided this organization through some difficult times. He is a terrific man and a thoughtful leader who has benefited both this organization and the NFL. I wish the Rivera family all the best in the future.

Looking ahead, we understand that the results this season were insufficient, and that a significant transition in leadership and strategy is required. I’ve put together a small advisory council with my partners to help me pick two critical roles for this organization: head of football operations and head coach. I’ve asked Mitch Rales, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, David Blitzer, Bob Myers, and Rick Spielman to join the advisory council that will help me make the best decisions for the team.

Commanders fire Ron Rivera after 4 seasons: reports

There is a lot to accomplish to achieve our ultimate goal of being an elite team and routinely competing for the Super Bowl, and we must first develop a solid organizational foundation managed by the industry’s best and most talented individuals. As a result, we will conduct a thorough search to discover the ideal personnel to lead this brand forward. These are among the most important decisions I make for the franchise: hiring excellent personnel, empowering them to lead, and holding them accountable. I am excited to be personally part in this process.

This is a critical offseason for the Commanders, and we have been driven and encouraged by the fans’ response since we took over last summer. We take our responsibilities as stewards of this franchise seriously, and we’re excited to build the groundwork for the next chapter of Commanders football.
