Oh, Mr. Shearer, your bias is apparent! Alan Shearer, a Newcastle United icon, has named three of Eddie Howe’s players to his Team of the Week following their victory over Fulham.

Newcastle took three points from Craven Cottage on Saturday, something few teams have done this season, but the Magpies’ performance was far from vintage.

Newcastle had virtually little presence in the game throughout the first 30 minutes. In fact, Eddie Howe had to resort to giving his team a dressing down on the touchline halfway through the first half while goalie Martin Dubravka was treated on the field.

Nonetheless, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer chose three Magpies for his Premier League Team of the Week.

Martin Dubravka, goalkeeper for Newcastle, said, “Four saves, and he was calm and assured in Newcastle’s goal as they kept a much-needed clean sheet in the win at Fulham.”

Fabian Schar, who plays for Newcastle United, “Shackled Rodrigo Muniz and won so many challenges, while he was unlucky that his goal was ruled out.”

Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle): “A great way to celebrate your 100th appearance with the club.” He took his goal exceptionally well to secure a critical three points.

Martin Dubravka is an interesting choice

We’re delighted to see Fabian Schar receive some praise for his performance, as many people seem to be concentrating on the one mistake he made that almost resulted in a Fulham goal, but aside than that, he was rock solid.

Shearer made a brave decision in selecting Martin Dubravka. The Slovakian preserved a clean sheet, although he was never in genuine danger from Fulham, despite their dominance. Still, that should be a good confidence booster for him.

Bruno Guimaraes was also included to Garth Crook’s BBC Team of the Week after scoring the game’s winning goal, so we’re not surprised to see his name here.
