Russell Martin praised Che Adams after questioning the Saints’ mindset following their 5-0 defeat at Leicester.

Martin admitted that he singled out Adams in front of the teammates in the King Power Stadium dressing room at full time.

Adams played 85 minutes of the humiliating defeat before being rested by the manager ahead of Saturday’s match against Stoke City.

Saints have now lost back-to-back games, losing 2-1 to Cardiff City despite dominating the Welsh capital.

When asked what he told his players in Leicester, Martin replied, “What can you say after that? “I didn’t like it.”I informed them that Che Adams is out of contract in the summer. He’s probably the only one with an excuse in there.

“An excuse if he didn’t genuinely want to go all in, show concern, and work hard for his team. He does it more than anyone else.

“So it’s inexcusable for anyone else not to do that,” Martin added. “I need to analyze my own attitude toward the athletes.

“They should definitely examine theirs because what has transpired in the last two games is unacceptable given their level of performance.

“You can play however you want – put the ball forward, play second balls – but if you don’t want to fight, run for each other, and defend properly, you’ll constantly be in problems.

“I am sure the style of play will be blamed, but that is not the case. It’s about mental toughness, courage, guts, and giving value to your team.

“That dressing room on Saturday and tonight, not enough of that.”
