Newcastle United injuries: Eddie Howe confirmed Tino Livramento’s fitness setback as he remained on the bench during the 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
Tino Livramento was an unused substitute in Newcastle United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

Eddie Howe chose the same lineup that defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in Newcastle’s previous match, with Livramento remaining on the bench. The 21-year-old missed three matches for United after suffering an ankle injury in the defeat at Chelsea last month, but came in as a substitute in the final stages of the victory over Spurs.

However, head coach Eddie Howe has stated that he named Livramento as a ’emergency’ substitute against Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.

“It’s a difficult period for us because we still have players that aren’t 100% fit,” he said. “We had a pretty small training group in between games, which limits your options somewhat.

“Tino Livramento is currently dealing with an ankle injury, which is why he did not play. He was there for an emergency, so we’ve been training with 12-13 players over the last ten days.”

Newcastle face Sheffield United at St James’ Park on Saturday (3pm kickoff). When asked if Livramento would be able to play in the match, Howe told The Gazette, “I’m not sure.” We surely do not want to cause him a long-term problem.

“He’s technically fit enough to play but carries a high risk, and we want to avoid giving him a long-term problem. But it all depends on the players I have available.

Newcastle’s Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, and Nick Pope are all hoping to return from injury before the conclusion of the season.
