Among all college sports, Auburn and Alabama enjoy one of the finest intrastate rivalries. They battle it off in recruitment when they’re not fighting on the football field. For one of the top linebackers in the south, the Tigers defeated the Crimson Tide on Monday.

Auburn And Alabama Are Dealing With New Coaches To Their Program

Hugh Freeze, the head coach of Auburn, was hired the previous season and led the team to a 6-7 record before falling to Maryland in the Music City Bowl. As the head coach of Ole Miss for five seasons from 2012 to 2016, Freeze does have past SEC experience and is familiar with recruiting in the South. Nevertheless, Kalen DeBoer, the new head coach of Alabama, is new to the South and has done a respectable job thus far, yet he allowed the Tigers to sign a four-star linebacker.

The Tigers Land Tyler Lockhart

Four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart committed to Auburn, bypassing schools like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, and Alabama, according to On3.com.

Lockhart Is The Number 16 Linebacker In His Class

Lockhart is ranked as the 16th linebacker in the 2025 class and 146th overall prospect by the On3.com Industry Rankings.
The 6-foot-4 linebacker is ranked sixth in his state and hails from Winona, Mississippi. The Mississippi native had 100 tackles in the previous season, including 11 sacks and 28 tackles for a loss.
According to 247sports.com, Lockhart is the first linebacker committed to the Tigers in the 2025 cycle.
